For the first time ever, Eurovision Sport is offering live coverage of the para-cycling events of the UCI Cycling and Para-Cycling Road World Championships. These events are being held alongside other events throughout the week. For more info. go to the website Zurich2024
How are para-cycling events structured?
Para-cycling is not differentiated according to age groups (elite, U23, juniors), but according to competition classes. Depending on the type and severity of their disability, athletes are divided into one of four categories: two-wheeler (C), three-wheeler (T), handbike (H) or tandem (B).
The C-Class unites those who travel on classic bikes powered by their legs. In the H class, those taking part cannot use their lower extremities and therefore use a handbike that is moved with their arms using cranks. Both classes are also divided into categories from 1 to 5. The higher the number, the lower the assumed physical limitation.
People who have problems with balance due to their disability compete with a tricycle, hence the T in the name. People with visual impairments and blind people compete in classes B and TCB, where a tandem is driven with the help of a sighted pilot.
